While frontier models still lead, we are seeing the rise of specialization. Small, 3B-parameter routers like Plano-Orchestrator are outperforming GPT-4o in specific logic loops, proving that efficiency is the new benchmark for production agents. Meanwhile, the Model Context Protocol (MCP) is maturing into a commercial ecosystem, providing the plumbing for 'skill-as-a-service' models. Despite concerns about 'reasoning decay' in flagship models, the focus has shifted to hardening infrastructure—from IoT integration and sub-millimeter physical control to managing state in the terminal with Claude Code.
